According to ISO/IEC 24727-6, sub-clause 5.3, subsequent OIDs are of the form {iso(1) registration-authority(1) iso24727(24727) part6(6) newprotocol-short-name(new-protocol-number)}.
Clause 5.5.1 and Annex B of ISO/IEC 24767-6 deal with "Authentication Protocol Registration Procedures" while clause 5.6.1 and Annex E deal with "Authentication-protocol-adoption registration procedures."
The content of an OID application is specified in clause 8 and the review of applications is detailed in clause 7.
Clause 8.3 states that the Registration Authority shall maintain two registers to include the following:
- Registered authentication protocol including the registered OID;
- A register of authentication-protocol-adoption including the OID adopted.
"SAI Global" was proposed as the Registration Authority by document ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 17 N 3519 (dated 24 July 2008) and is subject to approval by JTC 1/SC 17.
