The GMN comprises a GS1 company prefix and a model reference. The GS1 company prefix is allocated by GS1 Member Organizations to the company that allocates the GMN. The model reference is used to identify base product designs or specifications from which trade items are derived and/or registered. The exact method used to allocate the GMN is left to the discretion of the brand owner.
